Cantonese Class 11 GCSE

Teacher: Dr Jack Ho

Cantonese GCSE class is for students who are advanced enough to undertake the GCSE in Chinese. This course is taught in a year, with students given all the materials and teaching required to be assessed at GCSE level.

We use the Edexcel exam board which provides comprehensive testing of our students' abilities. There are four parts to the overall GCSE- Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. The Writing and Speaking aspects are modular and can be taken throughout the year.

The Speaking Test is undertaken by the teacher and may involve a picture-based presentation/discussion, a role-playing exercise/open interaction and a short presentation followed by questions regarding the topic of interest.

Meanwhile, the Writing Test requires two pieces of writing, based on a stimulus provided two weeks before the assessment, which are composed one after the other.

As for the Reading and Listening aspects of the course, these exams are sat at the end of the course in the Summer examination series and students will be prepared with numerous past papers and exercises which build on the skills learnt throughtout the year. For more information about the exam itself, please visit the Edexcel website.
