The History Of The School

Milton Keynes Chinese School was founded in July 1988. Back then, the Borough of Milton Keynes subsidised the running of four language classes for a group of Vietnamese Chinese children to learn Cantonese, their mother tongue.

Faced with a huge demand for learning Cantonese, the School expanded to 5 classes in September '88, 6 classes in '89, 9 classes in '95 and 14 classes in September '96.

The first GCSE class started in '91 and the first A-Level Chinese class in 1995. In April 1997 the School became a registered charity to form the current Milton Keynes Chinese School & Community Centre, forming a wider and more stable base for further development.

Since then the School has expanded considerably, becoming an integral part of the local community. We currently have students not only from Buckinghamshire but also from Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire.

We now have over 20 classes and a team of first class teachers managed by the Executive Committee, a group of dedicated volunteers.
